Set within the leafy inner-west suburb of Leichhardt, Sydney, Leichhardt House is a sophisticated and finely crafted family home that embraces warmth, texture, and contemporary architectural form. Designed by SN Architects, this project reinterprets the traditional suburban vernacular with a bold and expressive approach that celebrates natural materials, soft curves, and spatial fluidity.

From the street, the house presents a sculptural presence—defined by its curved upper form clad in vertical timber battens, floating gracefully above a textured brick base. The concrete roofline wraps gently around the first-floor balcony, softening the architectural silhouette while providing privacy and deep eaves for shading. Lush planting along the upper edge blurs the boundary between built form and nature, further grounding the home in its residential context.

Inside, Leichhardt House unfolds with an effortless sense of flow and calm. A soft, organic palette of natural stone, oak, and warm plaster forms the foundation of the interior experience. The heart of the home—an elegantly curved kitchen island sculpted from green quartzite—anchors the open-plan living space and sets the tone for the bespoke detailing throughout. Light filters in through full-height sliding doors, which dissolve the barrier between indoor and outdoor, inviting the garden into everyday life.

Curved walls, arched openings, and vertical joinery create a rhythm of softness and movement as one circulates through the home. Carefully curated material contrasts—smooth stone against fluted timber, warm metals against matte finishes—bring layers of visual interest and tactile delight. Each room is shaped with both comfort and intention, balancing spaciousness with intimacy.

Private spaces, such as the bedrooms and bathrooms, extend this sense of calm retreat. Vaulted ceilings with skylights draw daylight from above, while custom stone vanities, brass fittings, and softly patterned tiles introduce subtle luxury to the everyday.
