Modern Elegance Redefined: The Anzac Avenue Duplex

Located on Anzac Avenue in Denistone, NSW, this contemporary duplex designed by SN Architects presents a refined interpretation of modern suburban living. The project responds carefully to its residential context, combining strong architectural form, warm materiality, and integrated landscaping to create a distinctive yet harmonious addition to the streetscape.

The design is defined by two balanced architectural volumes that clearly express the duplex typology while maintaining the individuality of each dwelling. Clean geometric forms and strong horizontal roof planes establish a contemporary architectural language, while the symmetrical composition provides a calm and ordered street presence. The entry is positioned centrally between the two homes, creating a clear and welcoming arrival sequence that enhances both functionality and visual balance.

A key feature of the façade is the combination of soft curves and vertical textures at the lower level. Gently curved walls with vertical cladding elements introduce depth and elegance to the street frontage while helping to soften the building’s mass. Above, large floor-to-ceiling glazing maximises natural light and strengthens the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The material palette has been carefully selected to balance durability with warmth. Light-toned rendered surfaces are paired with vertical timber battens that provide rhythm, texture, and subtle shading to the upper-level façade. These materials create a contemporary aesthetic while ensuring the building remains timeless and suitable for its suburban setting.

Landscaping plays an important role in the overall architectural expression. Generous planter boxes at the upper level introduce cascading greenery that softens the façade and integrates nature into the design. At ground level, a carefully curated selection of drought-tolerant plants and sculptural succulents complements the contemporary architecture while maintaining a low-maintenance landscape suited to Sydney’s climate.

Internally, each residence has been designed to maximise natural light, privacy, and functional living. The layout provides efficient planning with open and flexible living spaces that connect seamlessly to outdoor areas. Large windows and glazed openings create bright interiors and reinforce the relationship between the homes and their surrounding landscape.

This duplex project at Anzac Avenue reflects SN Architects’ approach to residential architecture—thoughtful design, refined material selection, and careful consideration of the streetscape. The result is a contemporary duplex that not only provides high-quality living environments but also contributes positively to the evolving character of Denistone and the broader Sydney suburban context.
